A Shooter TV series, an adaptation of the 2007 thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen), has been set up at TNT, with Mark Wahlberg attached to star.
Deadline is reporting that John Hlavin, known for co-writing Underworld: Awakening and a couple of episodes of TV’s The Shield, is writing the drama series, and will be attached as executive producer alongside Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson.
The film saw Wahlberg play a marksman who is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the President. He ends up being double-crossed and framed for the assassination attempt, which forces him to go on the run while trying to find the real killer and uncover the reason he was set up.
Shooter was a decent thriller, with its strong sense of momentum working well to cover up the plot holes. The film’s plot would certainly suit an elongated format, and having Wahlberg himself on board as the star certainly can’t hurt either.
