
Aussie actress Abbie Cornish has been cast in the upcoming Amazon series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.
Cornish is to take on the role of female lead in the straight-to-series drama, which will see John Krasinski (The Office, 13 Hours) playing the character created by author Tom Clancy.
According to Deadline, the outlet that broke the news regarding Cornish’s casting, the actress will be playing Cathy Mueller, an intelligent and competitive doctor who specialises in infectious diseases. She’s also Ryan’s love interest.
The series will tell of an up-and-coming Ryan, a CIA analyst who is thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. After Ryan uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication, he’s launched towards the centre of a dangerous gambit with a new type of terrorism, one that threatens destruction on a global scale.
The show has been developed by Carlton Cuse and writer Graham Roland, co-showrunner/writer and writer respectively on Lost. The series, co-produced by Skydance TV and Paramount TV, is being executive produced by Cuse, Roland, Mane Neufeld (the movie franchise’s producer), Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Bradley Fuller, and Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross.
Cornish has a number of projects in the pipeline, including the thriller Lavender, which has been hitting the festival circuit, and the Gerard Butler-starring sci-fi thriller Geostorm – set for US release on October 20, 2017.
The 10-episode first season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is expected to drop in 2017. Stay tuned.
