Tom Holland is ready to swing back into the Spider-Man suit, but this time he’s trading digital backdrops for cobblestone streets.
Speaking in a new interview with Flip Your Wig, the 29-year-old actor opened up about returning for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, promising a shift in how the franchise is made — and a return to what made it feel so exciting in the first place.

“I’m obviously over the moon and so excited,” Holland said. “Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal.”
Reflecting on the limitations of filming No Way Home, which was heavily restricted due to COVID, Holland explained: “We were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID; we shot the entire film on stages.”
This time around, things are changing. “Now we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow and we’re gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we’re putting together.”
That shift in approach has him feeling reinvigorated. “It’s gonna feel like making [Homecoming] again,” he said. “It’s been such a long time that I’ve done it that it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air. I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”
A new chapter for Peter Parker
Holland previously spoke about Brand New Day at CinemaCon, calling it “a fresh start” and pointing to the emotional cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home — where Peter Parker gave up his identity to protect those closest to him.
“I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, where Peter Parker sacrificed his identity to save the people that he loves most in the world,” he said. “So, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. It is exactly that.”
Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is taking over directing duties, with longtime Spider-Man producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige returning. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to reprise their roles as MJ and Ned, while Jon Bernthal joins as The Punisher. Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas are also on board in undisclosed roles.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to open in U.S. cinemas on July 31, 2026.
It’ll be following a high bar set by its predecessors — Homecoming earned US$880 million, Far From Home reached US$1.13 billion, and No Way Home catapulted past expectations with US$1.9 billion globally.
Plot details remain under wraps for now, but between the change in directorial vision, a grounded production style, and a storyline picking up from one of the MCU’s most emotional endings, Brand New Day may be aiming for something more than just another superhero spectacle.
