The Unreal Engine 5 reimagining of the original Tomb Raider is now set for 2027, which is no doubt a disappointing update for fans hoping to get their hands on the game this year. The trailer offers a fresh look at the upcoming game, which brings Lara back to the franchise’s roots with a complete reimagining of the 1996 original Tomb Raider. Crystal Dynamics is returning to one of Lara Croft’s most iconic adventures, co-developing the game with Flying Wild Hog and rebuilding the experience for modern hardware.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will launch on February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
That does mark a delay, with the game previously expected sometime in 2026. Not exactly the news fans were hoping for, especially after waiting so long for Lara’s next major outing, but the new trailer at least gives the game a firm date to circle on the calendar.
And, to soften the blow a little, pre-orders are now available.
What Is Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis About?
The game reimagines Lara Croft’s first adventure, taking players through familiar locations from the original while expanding them with modern visuals, larger environments, and updated gameplay systems.
The story sends Lara in search of the scattered pieces of the Scion, an ancient artefact of immense power. Her journey takes her from the jungles of Peru to the ruins of Greece, the deserts of Egypt, and a mysterious Mediterranean island wrapped in myth. Standard Lara holiday, really.
The trailer also brings back familiar faces from the franchise’s earliest days, including Jacqueline Natla and Larson. And yes, the footage includes dinosaurs, because apparently Lara’s travel plans are never allowed to be even remotely normal.
How the Original Tomb Raider Is Being Reimagined
Crystal Dynamics is aiming for more than a visual upgrade here. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis rebuilds classic areas from the ground up, with the Peru section’s Lost Valley shown as a key example.
Rather than moving players through separate rooms in the old-school style, the remake opens these spaces into more connected environments that can be explored from different angles. Puzzles, collectibles, secrets and resources are being worked into larger areas, while returning favourites such as the cog puzzle have been redesigned to feel more grounded within the world.
The overall pitch is clear: this is still the Lara Croft origin adventure many fans remember, but rebuilt with the scale, atmosphere and gameplay expectations of a modern action-adventure title. Familiar bones, much bigger bite.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Editions and Pre-Order Details
In the U.S., the Standard Edition is priced at $59.99 and includes the full game digital download, along with the Survivor Outfit as a pre-order bonus.
The Deluxe Edition is priced at $69.99 and includes everything in the Standard Edition, plus 48-hour early launch access as a pre-order bonus, the Parisian Fugitive Outfit, and a post-launch DLC story pack.
In Australia, the Standard Edition is listed at $92.95, while the Deluxe Edition is priced at $107.95. The Australian Deluxe Edition includes the game, the Parisian Fugitive Outfit, and the DLC Story Pack.
