Because Tom Cruise seems determined to risk his neck at every opportunity.

Top Gun: Maverick is on the way, and you just know that means Cruise is going to be using it as an excuse to fly fighter jets at top speeds. It’s not just him experiencing the stomach-churning G-force. As you can see below, a number of the other cast members also got in on the action.

Paramount has released a fun behind-the-scenes featurette, showcasing some of the aerial craziness Cruise and the cast experienced. With multiple IMAX cameras surrounding the pilot, the idea is to put the viewer in the cockpit and make the action as immersive as possible.

“Aviation film like this has never been done,” says producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who also produced the original. “And chances are will never be done again.”

Top Gun: Maverick, which reunites Cruise with Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy, Only the Brave), arrives in Australia on June 25 and hits the US on June 26, 2020.

Official synopsis for Top Gun: Maverick:

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”.
