We’re about to kick off a wave of San Diego Comic-Con 2019 goodness. First off the block: the first trailer for the long-awaited sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.
Yes, 33 years after the release of Tony Scott’s Tom Cruise-starring action-drama hit comes the trailer for the sequel, which is finally close to hitting screens after going in and out of development for years. Scott was once attached to this film before his passing. At the helm now is Joseph Kosinski, who directed Cruise in Oblivion and whose credits also include Tron: Legacy and firefighter drama Only the Brave.
Fans of the original will appreciate the many fan-service nods on display here, from that theme, to Cruise riding his motorcycle as jets take off, to bar singing, and yes, it looks like shirtless volleyball is on offer as well. The trailer doesn’t offer up any plot details, but we do know that Miles Teller is on board as Bradley Bradshaw, a pilot trainee who is also the son of Maverick’s late flight partner Nick “Goose” Bradshaw. The cast also includes Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm and Val Kilmer, the latter back as Iceman.
Fingers crossed for this. Top Gun: Maverick will be in Australian cinemas on June 25 and US cinemas on June 26, 2020. Also, scroll down to check out the film’s first poster.
