The new film from Australian director John Hillcoat (The Proposition, The Road, Lawless) is on the way, and an exciting new U.K. trailer has been released to keep that hype building.
Triple 9 tells the story of a crew of dirty cops who are blackmailed by the Russian mob to pull off a crazy heist. They realise that the best way for them to get away with it is to manufacture a 999, the police code for “officer down” and the type of event that will see most of the city’s cops distracted.
Hillcoat hasn’t made a film since 2012’s Lawless, the Tom Hardy-starring drama that arguably wasn’t as strong as his resume suggested it might be. We’re big fans of Hillcoat’s work , and are pretty thrilled to see what looks like quite the riveting crime thriller here. The trailer hints at grit and twists galore, and you can’t really go wrong with that cast.
Triple 9, starring Casey Affleck, Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Gal Gadot, Aaron Paul, Teresa Palmer, Woody Harrelson and Clifton Collins Jr., hits the U.S. and U.K. on February 19.
Synopsis for Triple 9:
When a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist, they realise the only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down”. The chaos that ensues when a police officer is shot in the line of duty is just the diversion they’ll need to do the job, but whether they have the will to kill one of their own is an entirely different matter. Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck, action packed finale tangled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.
