A new trailer has been released for Triple 9, the upcoming star-studded crime drama from Australian director John Hillcoat (The Proposition, The Road).
Set on the gritty streets of L.A., Triple 9 tells of what goes down when a group of dirty cops are blackmailed by the Russian mob into pulling off a highly difficult heist. The cops decided that the best way to do it would be to create a 999, police code for “officer down.”
This marks Hillcoat’s sixth feature film since he shook audiences with his powerful 1988 prison drama Ghosts… of the Civil Dead. He’s a standout director, and although Lawless wasn’t quite up to the quality of his best work, it was still a strong pic.
The plot here may be a little familiar, but the tension is tangible and the cast, which includes Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Norman Reedus, and Gal Gadot, is downright impressive. Fingers crossed Hillcoat nails another one.
Triple 9 opens in the U.K. on February 19 and hits the U.S. on February 26.

Synopsis for Triple 9:
When a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist, they realise the only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down”. The chaos that ensues when a police officer is shot in the line of duty is just the diversion they’ll need to do the job, but whether they have the will to kill one of their own is an entirely different matter, triggering a breakneck, action packed finale tangled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.
