Start your engines. The official trailer for Twisted Metal season 2 has arrived, and it’s finally delivering the vehicular carnage at the heart of the classic PlayStation franchise. After using season 1 to build a bombastic, post-apocalyptic world—one part Mad Max, one part buddy comedy—the show now looks to be shifting into the explosive demolition derby fans were waiting for.
Anthony Mackie’s John Doe and Stephanie Beatriz’s Quiet are no longer just road-tripping across the wasteland. They’re contestants in a brutal tournament overseen by a cryptic figure named Calypso (Anthony Carrigan), who offers a single wish to the last driver standing. It’s a wish Quiet plans to use to bring down the literal and metaphorical walls dividing this dystopian society.

Familiar Faces, Fan Favourites, and Twisted Stakes
Sweet Tooth (still voiced by Will Arnett and physically performed by Joe Seanoa) is back with his flaming clown head and signature brand of gleeful violence. Joining the chaos are new combatants and returning favourites, including Michael James Shaw as the two-wheeled warrior Axel, and Tiana Okoye as Dollface, John’s long-lost sister with a deadly agenda of her own.
The trailer wastes no time teasing over-the-top action, twisted humour, and more of the oddball charm that helped make season 1 a surprise success. There’s also a hint that Calypso’s reality-bending wish fulfilment—infamous in the games for turning people’s desires into darkly ironic outcomes—may be getting the supernatural treatment this time.
Behind the Scenes: Returning Creatives and New Directors
Season 2 continues to be spearheaded by showrunner and writer Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai), with original game-adaptation creators Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland) onboard as executive producers. Also producing are Anthony Mackie, Will Arnett, Marc Forman, Jason Spire, Grant Dekernion, Peter Principato, and Carter Swan and Asad Qizilbash from PlayStation Productions. Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, also serves as an executive producer.
The season’s episodes are split between several directors: Phil Sgriccia (The Boys) helms episodes 201–202 and 205–206, Bill Benz (The Now) takes 203–204 and 211–212, Iain MacDonald covers 207–208, and Bertie Ellwood handles 209–210.
The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
When and Where to Watch Twisted Metal Season 2
Twisted Metal season 2 premieres with its first three episodes on July 31, streaming on Stan in Australia and Peacock in the U.S. New episodes will be released weekly, wrapping up the season on August 28.
