The fifth film in the Underworld franchise has been given the go-ahead, with a female director and a plan to start filming this year.
THR reports that Anna Foerster, a visual effects guru who has worked on films such as Independence Day, Godzilla, Pitch Black and Stuart Little 2, has been attached at the helm. She’ll be directing from a screenplay by Cory Goodman, who penned the 2011 Paul Bettany-starring action-fantasy Priest.
Kate Beckinsale will be back on board playing Selene, while Theo James, who had a role in Underworld: Awakening, will be reprising his role as David.
There’s no official word on what the plot for round five will be, but word has it that we’ll be focusing on “a new and younger generation of vampires and werewolves who are locked in a seemingly never-ending battle between supernatural races.” IMDB currently has the film’s working title as Underworld: Next Generation, so the rumoured plot seems legit.
The Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems picture will begin principal photography in Prague this October.
