Vanessa Hudgens has signed up for Powerless, an NBC comedy pilot set in the universe of DC Comics.
According to Variety, Powerless is to be a comedy set at one of America’s worst insurance companies. Hudgens will be playing Emily Locke, an insurance claims adjuster – a normal, powerless person – who finds herself exasperated by the often-destructive shenanigans of the city’s various superheroes.
The potential comedy series is to be a single-cam project with half-hour episodes. Ben Queen, whose writing credits include Cars 2 and short-lived Fox series Drive, has penned the script. Drop Dead Gorgeous director Michael Patrick Jann, also with directing credits on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Last Man on Earth and Community, is attached at the helm of the pilot.
Hudgens, who was most recently seen putting in an acclaimed turn in Fox’s recent live Grease TV musical, could have something unique here. With DC outings such as Arrow, The Flash, Gotham and Supergirl currently populating television, Powerless is aiming to be TV’s only DC-related comedy series, a point of difference that – assuming the pilot works well – could provide a winner.
