David Harbour’s axe-swinging Santa is back, bloodier and naughtier than ever. Universal Pictures has released the official trailer for Violent Night 2, promising another gloriously brutal Christmas as bones break, festive objects become weapons and Kristen Bell joins the carnage as Mrs. Claus. Santa Has Put Himself on the Naughty List
The 2022 original introduced Harbour as a disillusioned, hard-drinking Santa who rediscovered his Christmas spirit while violently eliminating the mercenaries holding a young girl and her family hostage.

The film may not have set the box office alight, but its US$76 million worldwide haul was a respectable result against a reported US$20 million budget. It also earned solid reviews, with a 74% score from critics and an 88% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Four years later, Santa has taken entirely the wrong lesson from that experience. “Santa’s now become obsessed with punishing the naughty,” returning director Tommy Wirkola explained to Polygon. “It’s gone so far that eventually he ends up on the naughty list and he is stripped of all his powers.”
The sequel will also explore more of Santa’s life before he became the red-suited gift-giver. The first film briefly revealed that Harbour’s character was once a Viking warrior, and the filmmakers have confirmed that Violent Night 2 will provide additional glimpses into his past without answering every lingering question.
The Mall Becomes a Christmas War Zone
Santa’s fall from grace leaves him trapped inside the Silver Bell Mall, where a ruthless gangster played by Jared Harris is terrorising the merchants and ruling the place with an iron fist.
With his magic depleted, Saint Nick must rely on his combat skills while rediscovering his faith in goodness and the true meaning of Christmas. Fortunately, losing his powers has done little to diminish his ability to turn festive objects into lethal weapons.
The trailer unleashes another barrage of Christmas-themed carnage, including brutal hand-to-hand combat, shattered decorations and some especially gruesome improvisation.
“The cookie cutter into the brains was a stroke of genius by Tommy Wirkola and our stunt department,” producer Kelly McCormick told Polygon, revealing that the extended fight was conceived as a tribute to Sam Raimi.
Kristen Bell’s Mrs. Claus Joins the Fight
When Santa needs reinforcements, he calls in the one person no criminal wants to face: Mrs. Claus. “That’s my wife. You’re in trouble now!” he says as Bell’s character charges in swinging a sword.
When Skullcrusher, Santa’s enormous sledgehammer, is thrown her way, she catches it effortlessly and declares, “Get your own man. He’s taken.”
The Cast, Creatives and Release Date
The cast also includes Joe Pantoliano, Daniela Melchior, Andrew Bachelor and AEW professional wrestler Maxwell Friedman, better known to wrestling fans as MJF.
Wirkola returns to direct from a screenplay by original writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller. The film is once again produced by 87North founders McCormick and David Leitch, whose credits include John Wick, Bullet Train, Atomic Blonde, The Fall Guy and the Nobody franchise.
Violent Night 2 opens in Australian cinemas on December 3, 2026, followed by U.S. cinemas on December 4.
