Marvel’s New ‘VisionQuest’ Trailer: Vision Faces Ultron, Jocasta and a Family Reunion Gone Wrong

Vision is still trying to work out who he is, and having Ultron rattling around inside his mind certainly isn’t making the process any easier. Marvel has dropped a new official trailer for VisionQuest, putting Paul Bettany‘s fractured android, James Spader‘s vicious Ultron and one very complicated family reunion front and centre. Watch the trailer above and get the details below.

The new footage expands considerably on the trailer Marvel unveiled at D23, with Vision wrestling even more openly with the uncomfortable reality that remembering his old life doesn’t necessarily make it his.

“Vision, he was a hero. An Avenger. I have his memories, but not his virtue,” he says, as footage from his past with Wanda Maximoff flashes across the screen.

Ultron, naturally, has absolutely no interest in handling that existential crisis delicately.

“You’re a ghost. Haunting her footsteps. That dead witch really did a number on you,” he tells Vision.

Ultron Wants Out — and Vision Has a Son to Save

The trailer pushes the show’s father-and-son story much harder this time around.

Vision’s search leads him to Thomas Shepherd, played by Ruaridh Mollica, the mysterious young man Marvel says may be the reincarnation of his son. That brings the story back towards the family at the heart of WandaVision, while also giving Vision a rather serious problem: he has memories of being a father without necessarily feeling like the man who lived them.

Ultron sees an opportunity. “Free me, and save your son,” he tells Vision.

Considering Ultron is apparently being kept contained within Vision’s own programming, that sounds less like friendly advice and more like one hell of a dangerous bargain. And later, Spader’s villain makes his intentions even clearer: “Now I’m gonna finish what I started all those years ago.”

The footage backs that threat up with plenty of action, including Ultron back in robotic form and Vision seemingly heading towards a confrontation he admits he “likely won’t win.”

Jocasta Enters the Fight

The trailer gives us a stronger look at T’Nia Miller’s Jocasta, including a direct fight with Vision. In Marvel Comics, Jocasta is one of Ultron’s stranger creations: an android intended to be his mate who ultimately rejects him and fights alongside the Avengers. Whether VisionQuest follows anything close to that path remains to be seen, but her connection to Ultron certainly makes her presence here interesting.

Inside Vision’s “Mindspace”, several familiar pieces of Stark-era technology take human form. James D’Arcy plays J.A.R.V.I.S., Orla Brady is F.R.I.D.A.Y., Emily Hampshire is E.D.I.T.H., while Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer play D.U.M.-E and U.

Then there’s Todd Stashwick’s Paladin, one of the figures hunting Vision after a bounty is placed on the android’s head.

Created for television by Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas, VisionQuest serves as the final chapter in the trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along.

When Is VisionQuest Released?

VisionQuest premieres on Disney+ on October 14, launching with its first two episodes. The eight-episode season will then continue weekly.

The series also stars Lauren Morais, Diane Morgan and Polly Frame. Christopher J. Byrne, Gandja Monteiro, Vincenzo Natali and Matalas direct episodes, with Matalas, Cindy Appel, Christopher Monfette, Nicole Falsetti and Matthew Okumura among the writers.

And for anyone wanting to revisit where all of this began, Marvel has also made the first three episodes of WandaVision available to watch free on its official YouTube channel ahead of the VisionQuest premiere.
