‘Supernatural’ Star Jared Padalecki is Your New ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’

There’s a new Walker, Texas Ranger series on the way, and the man set to wear the badge has been chosen.

Supernatural star Jared Padalecki, who has starred alongside Jensen Ackles in that series for a whopping 15 seasons, will be leading a reimagining of the ’90s series that starred Chuck Norris.

As reported by Deadline, this new series – a straight reboot – will introduce broken widower and father of two Cordell Walker , who returns to Austin after going undercover for two years on a big case. He gets a new female partner and tackles crime in the state’s most elite unite. The series “will explore morality, family, and rediscovering our lost common ground.”

The project comes from writer and executive producer Anna Fricke (Valor) and executive producers Dan Lin (Lethal Weapon series) and Dan Spilo (Sunnyside). While it doesn’t have a home as yet, it shouldn’t take long. CBS TV Studios is currently shopping it around, with The CW and CBS itself reportedly at the forefront of the pack.

CBS is going all in on reboots on the back of some recent successes such as Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver and Magnum P.I..

Here’s a look back at the Walker, Texas Ranger intros for nostalgia’s sake:
