Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures have dropped a new trailer for their upcoming video game adaptation, the highly anticipated Warcraft.
It’s an energetic new look at the film, offering up footage of Paula Patton’s Garona in action and giving us a look at more of the film’s fantastical action sequences. The visual effects appear to be stronger than those seen in the earlier trailers, although we’re not too sure about the decision to pump up the action with The Prodigy’s “The Day is My Enemy.”
Fans of the video game franchise will generally be keen to see what comes to fruition here, but it remains to be seen whether or not general audiences warm to this new fantasy epic. At least the narrative, which tells of two heroes set on a collision course as their respective civilisations come head to head, seems palatable enough for the uninitiated moviegoer to roll with.
Can Duncan Jones, director of Moon and Source Code, deliver an epic blockbuster that plays a strong hand in turning the tide for video game adaptations? We’ll see come when Warcraft hits U.S. screens on June 10 and Australian screens on June 16.
Synopsis for Warcraft:
The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.
So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.
