Two new clips have been unveiled from Terminator Genisys, the fifth film in the franchise that started with James Cameron’s sci-fi-horror outing back in 1984.
Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke dons a leather jacket and puts on an American accent here, taking on the role made famous by Linda Hamilton, Sarah Connor. Schwarzenegger reprises his role as the titular machine, Aussie actor Jai Courtney plays a soldier from the future sent back to ’84 in order to protect Sarah and safeguard the future, and Jason Clarke plays her son, John Connor.
The buzz has been well and truly mixed for this one, which is somewhat understandable when you consider the moderate responses that Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation received. Still, like many, we’re really hoping for something good here.
The clips below provide a good idea of the tone and the energy level we’re to expect going in, even if Clarke’s stab at a classic line doesn’t quite impress. By the way, that’s a nifty little Nike plug.
Terminator Genisys, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J. K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Matthew Smith, Courtney B. Vance and Byung-Hun Lee, hits Australia and the U.S. on July 1.
Terminator Genisys rundown:
When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…
The “TERMINATOR” franchise launched in 1984 with Schwarzenegger as the title character and spanned three subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Schwarzenegger reprises his role as the iconic character and Jai Courtney joins the film as hero Sgt. Kyle Reese, who travels back in time to save the ‘Mother of the Resistance’ Sarah Connor.
