Visual effects have certainly come a long way.
From Wings, the 1927 silent WWI drama that took home the first Best Picture Oscar, to Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi drama Interstellar, the Oscar for Best Visual Effects has been handed out to quite the variety of films over the years.
It’s fascinating to see the evolution of VFX summed up so vividly in a video compilation, and that’s what we have here thanks to the folks over at Burger Fiction. You may not have seen – or even heard of – some of these entries, while others could come as a bit of a surprise.
The following films are nominated for the Best Visual Effects at the upcoming 88th Academy Awards:
- Ex Machina
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- The Martian
- Mad Max: Fury Road
- The Revenant
