Season 7 finale spoilers ahead.
“For us, as actors, it’s just weird.”
So says actress Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO phenomenon that is Game of Thrones. She’s talking about that awkward moment that many of us knew was coming: Daenerys having sex with her nephew, Jon (Kit Harington). Yeesh, when you put it like that, it’s really messed up.
HBO has unveiled a featurette with Clarke, Harington, Peter Dinklage and Isaac Hempstead Wright discussing the pivotal scene in the season 7 finale.
“I like looking at her and going, [acts up a heavy gag reflex] ‘Oh, God. I’m sorry. Let’s go again,'” jokes Harington, who says he thought it was “an inevitability from around half-way through the season” that the Mother of Dragons and the King of the North would end up in bed together.
“You don’t even get the relief of how beautiful it could be or should be,” says Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister. “It’s just not good. But it should be, but it’s not. It’s Game of Thrones. There’s a long history of romance not ending well.”
Let’s be honest, they really, really do make a great couple. Hell, if Jaime and Cersei could look past that whole related thing… okay, that’s probably not going to happen in the final season. But hey, stranger things have happened in GoT!
