Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion plays beloved video game character Nathan Drake in a fan-made Uncharted short film that’s been released online.
A big-screen film adaptation of the popular Uncharted video game franchise has been circling a start for a while now. Word finally broke in May 2017 that Tom Holland may be leading an Uncharted movie, although it’s been pretty quiet on the front since. Well, fans clamoring for a live-action take on the action-adventure games can at least enjoy this in the meantime.
Directed and co-written by Allan Ungar, whose previous feature credits include smaller action releases Tapped Out and Gridlocked, the short film below plays out like an intro to one of the games, setting up a new adventure for Drake and, yes, Sully and Elena to go on. Stephen Lang (Don’t Breathe, Avatar) is a great choice for Sully; Mircea Monroe (Episodes, Book Club) is on board as Elena.
It’s a slick enough production, with a variety of nods for fans of Naughty Dog’s popular franchise, and Fillion has Drake pretty much down-pat considering the character already acts and looks like him. The limited budget does show (a bit more of a creative action sequence would have been nice), but it’s nevertheless a fun short for fans to enjoy.
Time will tell if this helps get Sony moving on a feature.
