Netflix has unveiled the first six minutes of Wednesday season 2 — and the Addams teen sleuth is wasting no time diving into another morbid mystery. Revealed during the Netflix Tudum 2025 live event, the opening sequence came paired with the confirmation of big casting news: Lady Gaga is officially joining the series.
Wednesday’s Summer Plans? Hunting Serial Killers
The season premiere, titled Here We Woe Again, opens with Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) tied up in a basement filled with handmade dolls. But before we get to that twisted scene, we’re taken back through her summer break — which, of course, involved chasing a serial killer known as the Kansas City Scalper.
More on Screen Realm:
Flashbacks show a young Wednesday traumatising classmates with a school presentation on the killer’s crimes. The hunt eventually leads her and trusty companion Thing to their latest suspect: Chet (played by Haley Joel Osment), a pet groomer with a very creepy hobby and a suspicious obsession with hair.
Wednesday tries to tase him, but the encounter triggers a vision — only this time, something’s different. Her psychic powers glitch, and black tears run down her face. “This season, Wednesday’s psychic visions change,” co-creator Miles Millar told Tudum. “Over the course of the season, it’s a struggle to recover her power.”
As for that twisted basement scene, Chet presents a doll made in Wednesday’s image — one of many likenesses he’s created of past victims. Her response? Utterly unfazed. “Let me show you some of my own handiwork,” she tells him, right before Thing bursts out of a doll and saves the day.
The sequence ends with Wednesday ominously raising a knife to a now terrified Chet: “Now… let’s play dolls.”

A Behind-the-Scenes Breakdown of the Opening
Following the premiere of the footage, creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar provided a scene-by-scene breakdown of the teaser, revealing several ideas that never made it to screen.
“We were like, ‘What would Wednesday do during her summer vacation?’” Gough said in the Easter Eggs breakdown vid, uploaded to Netflix site Tudum. “Chasing a serial killer felt like the perfect thing for her to do.”
The opening sequence originally included even more surreal moments, including a visit to Starbucks and a dog-napper takedown. “The first part of the teaser, originally, was her mastering her powers,” Millar explained. “She was doing this sort of spell over Goody’s book, and then the pendant turned from black to red.”
They also confirmed the team was going for a cold open that could rival the now-iconic piranha pool scene from season 1. “We wanted something that was different but had the same sort of comedic darkness,” Millar added. “And obviously… someone’s nuts getting, you know…”
Even the airport scene, featuring Wednesday being stopped over a tube of sunscreen while carrying an arsenal of weapons, was rooted in real-life annoyance. “This is based on London Heathrow Airport’s obsession with the size of your carry-on liquids,” Gough said.
On casting Haley Joel Osment as Chet, Gough described the character as a “beauty school dropout” turned pet groomer who became obsessed with hair — and murder. The basement lair, filled with dolls of his victims, was described as “incredibly creepy to be in,” according to Millar. “The art department went above and beyond with the dolls.”
Lady Gaga Joins the Cast as Rosaline Rotwood
Netflix has confirmed that Lady Gaga is heading to Nevermore Academy. The Grammy winner and Oscar-nominated actress will appear in Wednesday season 2 as Rosaline Rotwood, a “mysterious and enigmatic” teacher who features in Part 2 of the season.
The casting was announced live on stage at Tudum, where fans were given an extended musical performance. Awakening from a coffin, the performance saw Gaga perform “Zombieboy,” “Bloody Mary,” and “Abracadabra.” It marked one of the biggest moments of the fan event — and helped hype up the arrival of what could be one of the season’s most intriguing characters.

Season 2 Brings Back Familiar Faces, Fresh Foes and Twisted Mysteries
As teased by co-showrunners and executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, season 2 is ramping up both the scale and the darkness.
“This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries,” Gough and Millar told Tudum.
Millar added that while Wednesday may think she has a handle on her eerie school surroundings, things won’t go as expected: “She thinks she’s going to be in control, that she knows where all the bodies are buried, and she doesn’t.”
The new season sees familiar faces returning — including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Isaac Ordonez as Morticia, Gomez, and Pugsley — while expanding the supernatural world Wednesday inhabits.
Among the new faces of series regulars: Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah B. Taylor. The season also features an impressive lineup of guest stars, with appearances from Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Heather Matarazzo, Joonas Suotamo, and the previously mentioned Lady Gaga and Haley Joel Osment.
Release Dates Confirmed for Season 2
Netflix confirmed that Wednesday season 2 will arrive in two parts. Part 1 will premiere on August 6, followed by Part 2 on September 3.
