‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Trailer: Jenna Ortega Returns to Nevermore with New Mysteries, Family Drama & Steve Buscemi

The gates of Nevermore Academy creak open once again in the first trailer for Wednesday season 2, teasing more mystery, monsters, and meddling relatives. Netflix has released a moody and knife-sharp look at the next chapter of the hit series, which continues to follow Jenna Ortega‘s deadpan sleuth as she navigates school, family, and a few more murderous secrets. Take a look above and learn more below.

A Not-So-Warm Return to Nevermore

“Wednesday goes into this season thinking she knows Nevermore… but nothing happens that she’s expecting,” series co-creator Miles Millar told Netflix site Tudum. Indeed, the trailer makes clear that Wednesday’s return to school won’t go according to plan. The Addams family presence on campus is expanding, with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán reprising their roles as Morticia and Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez joining the school as Pugsley Addams.

“Your family at school is the worst thing possible, isn’t it?” executive producer Tim Burton said. “Wednesday is an even more extreme version of that. Poor Pugsley… he’s kind of an outcast among outcasts.”

Steve Buscemi Steps Into the Spotlight

With Principal Weems gone, Nevermore needs new leadership. Enter Steve Buscemi as Principal Barry Dort. “Barry Dort is a bit of a mysterious figure,” Buscemi said. “Something about him is not right, but he loves the school and he has real outcast pride.”

Director Tim Burton added, “Steve brought a new energy to this season… it was fun and it was creative.”

Expanding the Cast and Chaos

This season promises more time with fan-favourite characters like Enid (Emma Myers), Bianca (Joy Sunday), Tyler (Hunter Doohan), and the ever-faithful Thing. Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester is also back with a larger role.

Also joining the cast is Joanna Lumley as Morticia’s mother, Hester. “There’s always something thrilling about working for Tim Burton,” Lumley said. “The world that they’ve created here for Wednesday and Nevermore and the family is just intoxicating.”

Jenna Ortega on Stepping Back Into Wednesday’s Shoes

“Wednesday Addams is one of the coolest characters of all time,” said Ortega, who also serves as a producer this season. “To be able to slip into the costume and tone again, it’s so much fun… she runs circles around everyone she has a conversation with.”

Season 2 Will Be Released in Two Parts

Wednesday Season 2 will premiere in two parts on Netflix: Part 1 arrives August 6, with Part 2 following on September 3.
