Season 3 confirmed before Season 2’s end

Good news for Wednesday fans! Even before Season 2 has wrapped, Netflix has officially ordered a third season of the Jenna Ortega-led series — a clear vote of confidence in what’s become one of the platform’s biggest performers.

“Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can,” co-creator Alfred Gough told Netflix’s Tudum. “We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.”

Co-creator Miles Millar added a simple tease: “We will be seeing more Addams Family members and learning more family secrets in Season 3!”

Where Season 3 stands and when it could finish filming

Development is underway. As Gough explained to Collider, “We’re actually in the writers’ room for Season 3,” with work briefly paused to launch Season 2. The plan is to stick with eight episodes.

Tim Burton’s directing slate is undecided — Gough’s line on that was blunt: “No idea. Couldn’t tell you.” Said Millar: “It’s always great to have Tim here, and the fact that he did four episodes in the first season and four this season was amazing. So, it just depends on his schedule.”

As for when we can expect the third season on our screens, it’s best to have patience. Millar told Collider the episodes are built at near film scale — “These aren’t just episodes; they really are movie-scale productions. We have over 3,500 visual effects shots this season.”

On timing, he set realistic guardrails: “18 months would be the bare minimum we could get this show back up, just from production to air.” When a roughly two-year cadence was floated (assuming cameras roll later this year), Gough’s take was succinct: “Yeah, that would be ideal.”

We’re currently between halves of Season 2. All four episodes of Wednesday Season 2, Part 2 will be streaming on Netflix from September 3.
