Rawson Marshall Thurber, the director of this year’s successful comedy We’re the Millers, is set to direct Ed Helms in a new spy comedy. THR has reported that Thurber is rejoining New Line Cinema to direct Central Intelligence, a comedy that he is also said to re-write.
Central Intelligence will tell the story of an accountant who is thrown into the world of international espionage after reconnecting with an old friend on Facebook. Don’t you just hate when that happens?
The project has had quite a trip towards the green light. It was originally under Universal, with Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest, Fun with Dick and Jane) originally attached to direct. Thurber will mark the fourth person to tackle the script. Originally written as a spec by Ike Barinholtz and Dave Stassen, the script has since been worked on by Sean Anders, John Morris (Hot Tub Time Machine) and Peter Steinfeldhave.
Ed Helms is also attached to executive produce.
It’s now wonder New Line is more than willing to have Thurber on board as director once again, We’re the Millers had an estimated budget of $37 million and brought in around $269 million worldwide.
Ed Helms is also attached to produce the upcoming Jake and Amir television series.
