Roland Emmerich, director of epic-scale blockbusters like Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012, turns his sights to action with White House Down.
While on a tour of the White House with his young daughter, a police officer (Channing Tatum) springs into action to protect his child and the president (Jamie Foxx) from a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders.
This looks great. Emmerich has always been the king of destruction and it’s going to be awesome seeing him bring his epic scope to an all out action flick. Channing Tatum is a pretty safe draw-card and he should be right at home in this. Actually, the entire cast is really impressive. Jaime Foxx, Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods, Richard Jenkins and Jason Clarke round up quite a talented pool.
Antoine Fuqua’s action flick, Olympus Has Fallen, tackles a damn similar story and is proving to be quite a hit in the States. It’s going to be interesting to see which film is more successful.
