Guy Ritchie has put Benedict Cumberbatch into full beast mode. The first teaser trailer for Wife & Dog has arrived, and while it only runs for around a minute, it wastes very little time turning an upper-class family drama into something much nastier. Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike and Anthony Hopkins lead a strong cast in a tale of greed, betrayal and bloody succession. Watch the trailer above and get the details below.
A Bedtime Story From Hell
The teaser keeps the plot cards close to its chest, instead letting Hopkins set an increasingly ominous mood with a dark story about a man trapped in a pit. Unable to climb out, the man digs deeper and deeper until, Hopkins says, “Eventually, he found himself in hell.”
More on Screen Realm:
As things heat up, Pike’s character asks him, “And what did he find in hell, Daddy?”
Cut to flashes of Cumberbatch’s character going absolutely savage, including driving a pole into a man’s eye and blasting another with a shotgun. Hopkins delivers the menacing punchline: “He found me.”
The official logline is similarly brief: “The relentless greed of the Fairbank family and their associates fuels betrayal and murder in the battle for succession.”
So, yes, we’re firmly in Ritchie territory: wealth, power, family politics and people apparently willing to get very bloody when there’s something valuable on the table.
Who’s in the Wife & Dog Cast?
Alongside Cumberbatch, Pike and Hopkins, the ensemble includes Cosmo Jarvis (Shōgun), James Norton (House of the Dragon) and Paddy Considine (MobLand).
Ritchie wrote and directed the film, which will mark his sixth feature to be released in less than four years, following Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Fountain of Youth and In the Grey. The prolific filmmaker has also been busy on television, with recent projects including MobLand, The Gentlemen and Young Sherlock.
When Is Wife & Dog Released?
Wife & Dog is currently scheduled to open in Australian cinemas on February 18 and in U.S. cinemas on February 19, 2027.
