“I had no idea it was going to be this hard,” Reese Witherspoon says in a new featurette released for Wild, the new drama from director Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club).
Vallée directed Matthew McConaughey to his Oscar win, and the buzz currently suggests that Witherspoon has a pretty good chance of getting a nod.
Wild sees Witherspoon play Cheryl Strayed, a woman who embarks on a 1,100-mile solo hike after her marriage falls apart and her mother passes away.
As the featurette proudly shows off below, Witherspoon threw herself head-first into the role. It certainly helped having the real-life Strayed with her along the way.
Official synopsis for Wild:
In Wild, director Jean-Marc Vallee (Dallas Buyers Club), Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line) and Academy Award nominated screenwriter Nick Hornby (An Education) bring bestselling author Cheryl Strayed’s extraordinary adventure to the screen. After years of reckless behavior, a heroin addiction and the destruction of her marriage, Strayed makes a rash decision. Haunted by memories of her mother Bobbi (Academy Award nominee Laura Dern) and with absolutely no experience, she sets out to hike more than a thousand miles on the Pacific Crest Trail all on her own. WILD powerfully reveals her terrors and pleasures –as she forges ahead on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.
Wild is currently on limited release in the U.S., and will hit the U.K. on January 16 and Australia on January 22.
