Wild Trailer: Reese Witherspoon Goes for a Hike

The first trailer has been released for Wild, an upcoming drama starring Reese Witherspoon. Based on Cheryl Strayed’s memoir, Witherspoon stars as a woman who decides to hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone, after her marriage falls apart and her mother dies. While it’s certainly hard to shake the term “Oscar bait” from one’s mind when watching this trailer, it could be a strong film. Witherspoon has proven herself as a strong actress before and director Jean-Marc Vallée smacked it out of the park with last year’s Dallas Buyers Club. If this is half as good as Sean Penn’s masterful Into the Wild, then we’ll be giving it a shot.

Wild stars Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Michiel Huisman, Gaby Hoffmann, Thomas Sadoski, and Kevin Rankin.

Official synopsis for Wild:

With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) has lost all hope. After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision. With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone. WILD powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.
