Paul Dano has lined up two Oscar-nominated actors for his feature directorial debut.
Dano is set to direct Wildlife, an adaptation of Richard Ford’s 1990 novel about a teenage boy who sees his parents’ marriage fall apart after they move to Montana.
Attached in lead roles are Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan, with Gyllenhaal also set to produce with Riva Marker under their Nine Stories Productions banner.
Apart from being his first feature as director, Wildlife will also mark Dano’s first screenplay credit. Dano has co-written the screenplay alongside his Ruby Sparks co-star Zoe Kazan, who also penned that 2012 dramedy.
Dano and Gyllenhaal will soon be seen together on Okja, the next feature from The Host and Snowpiercer director Bong Joon-ho. Gyllenhaal also has the upcoming Tom Ford-director Nocturnal Animals set for release later this year. Mulligan, whose last feature was the 2015 feminist movement drama Suffragette, will next be seen in Mudbound, a period drama also starring Garrett Hedlund and Jason Clarke.
Production on Wildlife will be kicking off this November.
