The first two official images have been unveiled for the Wonder Woman sequel, titled Wonder Woman 1984.
Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros’ DC sequel, which brings back Gal Gadot as the Amazonian warrior. Also returning, as confirmed in the image below, is Chris Pine, reprising his role as Steve Trevor. Yep, somehow Trevor’s back, looking confused in the film’s titular 80s setting. Let the speculation begin on how they’re going to explain his return.
Kristen Wiig will be playing The Cheetah, the new big bad facing off against our heroine, and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, Narcos, Kingsman: The Golden Circle) is also on board.
Director Patty Jenkins returns at the helm of the follow-up, with D.O.P Matthew Jensen and production designer Aline Bonetto also among the returning team members. Gadot is attached as producer this time around, producing alongside Jenkins, Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, and Stephen Jones. Rebecca Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada are the executive producers.
Wonder Woman is the second-highest grossing film in Warner Bros’ DC extended universe, raking in $US822 million, a bit behind the $US873 million earned by Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Critically, though, the film remains the most acclaimed.
Wonder Woman 1984, which is to be filmed in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Virginia, the UK, Spain and the Canary Islands, will be released in Australia on October 31, 2019 and will open in the US on November 1, 2019.
