Woody Harrelson is officially joining the Star Wars universe.
Lucasfilm has confirmed that the acclaimed film and TV actor will have a role in the upcoming Han Solo movie, set to star Alden Ehrenreich as a young incarnation of the iconic character.
Although Lucasfilm’s confirmation of Harrelson’s casting doesn’t come with details regarding his exact role, this news follows a report from Variety that Harrelson was being eyed to play Han Solo’s mentor.
“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody,” directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who have previously brought us 21/22 Jump Street and The Lego Movie, said in a joint statement. “His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”
The still untitled Han Solo movie will be set prior to A New Hope (Episode IV) and will co-star Donald Glover (as Lando Calrissian) and Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke.
Rogue One marked the first “Star Wars Story” in a series of planned films to focus outside the Skywalker family saga. So far, so good. At the time of writing, Rogue One has earned $US918.7 million worldwide with an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Han Solo movie is scheduled to hit US cinemas on May 25, 2018.
