Final ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ Trailer: The Team Take On One of Their Own

20th Century Fox

The final full-length official trailer has been released for X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner is enjoying a big year, as that series phenomenon delivers its final season and she takes on the title role in the new X-Men movie. Dark Phoenix finds Jean Grey going bad and lovin’ it after she is overcome by a cosmic force during a rescue mission in space. Jessica Chastain plays a potentially other-worldly being that appears to fuel her turn to malevolence.

This could be the end of the franchise that we’ve been on since it kicked off in 2000. It’s uncertain whether the delayed New Mutants movie (finally hitting cinemas in August) will be connected to the primary X-Men films, which haven’t really bothered with a straightforward linear structure anyway. Indeed, we’re visiting the Dark Phoenix saga again, but it could be the right story to end the series in strong fashion as Disney gears up with whatever they have planned for the mutants now that Fox is theirs.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix, also starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, and Alexandra Shipp, will arrive in Australia on June 6 and hits the US on June 7.

Official synopsis for X-Men: Dark Phoenix:

This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.
