Take a look at the trailer released for You, an upcoming Netflix Original thriller series that the streaming giant will be releasing outside of the US and Turkey. Lifetime Television has it in the US.
The show follows Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), a New Yorker who decides he’s going to exploit today’s technology (particularly social media) to win the heart of Beck (Elizabeth Lail). Unfortunately for Beck and her suspicious best friend (Shay Mitchell), Joe’s a dangerous, highly obsessed stalker.
The trailer shows off what looks like a style mash up of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars, which is totally appropriate since Badgley is from the former and Mitchell’s from the latter. It’s going to be interesting to see how dark this one gets, and whether any of the characters that aren’t our lead stalker are interesting enough to root for.
You is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Caroline Kepens and comes from Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble. Berlanti is known for being behind a number of popular TV shows, including those in CW’s Arrowverse (Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl) and Riverdale. Berlanti also recently directed the hit rom-com Love, Simon.
You, also starring Luca Padovan and Zach Cherry, will premiere on Lifetime on September 9 and will be hitting Netflix soon.
