We’ve been hearing rumours about a sequel to Zombieland for a while now, but word is that Sony Pictures is finally getting a move on.
Deadline is reporting that Zombieland 2 is being developed, with Dave Callaham (The Expendables, Godzilla) hired to pen the screenplay. Apparently it was Callaham’s latest project, a Jo Nesbo adaptation called Jackpot, that got him the gig.
Director Ruben Fleischer (30 Minutes or Less, Gangster Squad) is said to return at the helm, though there’s no deal locked in.
Remember that Zombieland TV series that was being developed? Amazon made a pilot episode that saw the original characters from the film played by a new cast. It didn’t work out.
Zombieland, starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Amber Heard and Bill Murray, was a modest hit in 2009, earning $102 million worldwide on a budget of $23 million.
