The first trailer has arrived for Zombieland: Double Tap, the sequel to the 2009 zombie comedy starring Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin. Yeah, it’s been 10 years somehow.
Director Ruben Fleischer returns for this follow-up, which catches up with the gang as they deal with the growing pains of their makeshift family and, you know, the fact that the world is still covered in the undead. There are new kinds of zombies to deal with this time, as well as new survivors. Rosario Dawson, Zoey Dutch, Luke Wilson and Thomas Middleditch are among the new faces – the latter two providing an amusing doppleganger moment. Shaun of the Dead did this type of moment very well though, when the gang met another group of survivors with people that amusingly resembled them almost perfectly.
The first film was and remains a very enjoyable zombie comedy, benefiting from a self-aware tone and a charming cast. Bringing back all four leads, Fleischer at the helm, and screenwriters Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (who are this time working with Dave Callaham, Wonder Woman 1984) should mean we’re in safe hands for a decent follow-up.
Zombieland: Double Tap will be in Australian cinemas on October 17 and US cinemas on October 18.
Official synopsis for Zombieland: Double Tap:
A decade after Zombieland became a hit film and a cult classic, the lead cast (Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone) have reunited with director Ruben Fleischer (Venom) and the original writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool) for Zombieland: Double Tap.
In the sequel, written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, these four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.
