Disney has unveiled the official teaser trailer for Zootopia 2, reuniting fan-favourite duo Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde for a brand-new mystery in the bustling animal metropolis. The sequel to the 2016 Oscar-winning hit promises more high-stakes hijinks, deeper world-building, and a brand-new character slithering into town. Take a look at the trailer above.
This time around, Judy (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick (Jason Bateman) find themselves entangled in a twisting investigation that begins with the arrival of a mysterious pit viper named Gary De’Snake, voiced by Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once). The newcomer seems to know how to stir things up—and possibly make everything worse. To crack the case, the unlikely partners must go undercover in parts of Zootopia we haven’t seen before.
More on Screen Realm:
“We are beyond excited to welcome everyone back to the outrageous, expansive animal metropolis of Zootopia, and take audiences on a hilarious, wild ride into parts of the city we’ve never visited before,” said returning director and Disney Animation chief creative officer Jared Bush. “Whether it’s the marshes of semi-aquatic mammals, the vast desert dunes or even greater mysteries beyond, our heroes, Judy and Nick, will meet a lot of new friends, and discover even more about the world, themselves and a brand-new snake in town.”
The trailer also features a new original song, “ZUTU”, courtesy of fictional lemming techno group LEMEEENS—fresh off opening for Gazelle (voiced once again by Shakira).
Jared Bush and Byron Howard return to direct, with Yvett Merino producing. The voice cast includes newcomers Quinta Brunson and Fortune Feimster.
Zootopia was a massive success for Disney. The film topped $US1 billion in worldwide box office receipts, a huge result from a budget of $US150 million. It also received highly positive reviews (98% on Rotten Tomatoes, for example) and was handed the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Zootopia 2 opens in U.S. cinemas on November 26 and Australian cinemas on November 27.
