‘The Electric State’ Trailer: Millie Bobby Brown & Chris Pratt in Netflix Sci-Fi Film from Russo Brothers

Netflix has released the official teaser trailer for The Electric State, a highly anticipated sci-fi film set in a retro-futuristic version of the 1990s. Directed by the Russo brothers (Joe and Anthony Russo, whose credits include Avengers: Endgame and Netflix release The Gray Man), the film stars Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt in a tale based on Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel of the same name. Take a look above.

The Film’s Plot: A World Transformed by Robotics

In The Electric State, the world of the ’90s is far from the one we know. In this alternate reality, the rise of artificial intelligence sparked a devastating war between humans and machines. While an uneasy peace has since been established, the tension remains, and the future is uncertain. Against this backdrop, the story follows Michelle (Brown), a young woman on a dangerous journey across a robot-ravaged America, alongside her mysterious toy robot and a smuggler, played by Pratt.

The trailer, set to a haunting cover of Oasis’ “Champagne Supernova,” offers a glimpse at the world the Russos have created. Robots the size of skyscrapers loom over iconic landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, while unexpected elements like a revolution led by Mr. Peanut bring a quirky edge to the film’s dystopian aesthetic. The teaser hints at an action-packed adventure. “So you wanna go get your brother back?” Pratt’s character asks Brown. “I’ll go with you.”

The Star-Studded Cast

The ensemble cast of The Electric State boasts a range of familiar faces, including Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games), and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad). Robots are brought to life through voice work from talents such as Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, and Brian Cox.

The screenplay was penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, reuniting with the Russo brothers after their work on Captain America and Avengers films.

The Film’s Release Date

The Electric State will be released on Netflix on March 14, 2025. We’ll see, but with what could be intriguing mix of futuristic technology, an epic adventure, and a fairy-tale-like narrative, this film is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s biggest releases of 2025.
