Netflix has unveiled the official teaser trailer for All Quiet on the Western Front, a harrowing-looking new adaptation of the 1929 novel by German veteran WWI veteran Erich Maria Remarque. The book was previously adapted into a 1930 film directed by Lewis Milestone and a 1979 television movie directed by Delbert Mann.

The story follows a young German soldier on the Western Front of World War I. Paul (played by Felix Kammerer) and his comrades experience first-hand how the initial euphoria of war turns into desperation and fear as they fight for their lives, and each other, in the trenches.

The German-language film is directed by Edward Berger (Your Honor, The Terror, Patrick Melrose) and also stars Daniel Brühl, Albrecht Schuch, Aaron Hilmer, Moritz Klaus, Edin Hasanovic, Adrian Grünewald, Thibault De Montalembert, and Devid Striesow.

All Quiet on the Western Front hits Netflix and opens in limited U.S. cinemas on October 28th.
