A film lined up for Oscar glory, perhaps? Apple TV+ has unveiled official trailer for Blitz, the latest project from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sir Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave, Widows, Shame, Hunger). As you can see above, the trailer showcases what looks an emotional and intense wartime drama set during World War II.
Blitz tells the story of George, a 9-year-old boy played by newcomer Elliott Heffernan, who is sent by his mother, Rita (Saoirse Ronan), to the safety of the English countryside amidst the chaos of the London Blitz. Despite his mother’s wishes, George embarks on a dangerous journey to reunite with her and his grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) in East London. As George faces escalating dangers, Rita frantically searches for her missing son across the burning city.
The film’s cast also includes Harris Dickinson, Benjamin Clementine, Kathy Burke, Paul Weller, Stephen Graham, and Leigh Gill, among others.
Written and directed by McQueen, Blitz reunites the acclaimed filmmaker with several long-time collaborators for this project, including production designer Adam Stockhausen (12 Years a Slave, Widows), costume designer Jacqueline Durran (Small Axe), and renowned composer Hans Zimmer (12 Years a Slave). Cinematographer Yorick Le Saux (Little Women) and makeup designer Naomi Donne (Spectre, Skyfall) also lend their expertise to the film.
Blitz is set to premiere in select US cinemas on November 1st before it begins streaming on Apple TV+ on November 22nd.
