The trailer has arrived for Conversations with Friends, a new series based on the novel of the same name by Sally Rooney, whose book Normal People was adapted into an acclaimed series in 2020.
The plot follows Frances (newcomer Alison Oliver), a 21-year-old college student navigating a series of relationships that force her to confront her own vulnerabilities for the first time. Although she broke up with the self-assured and outspoken Bobbi (Sasha Lane, American Honey) three years ago, they remain inseparable. Things take a turn when the two meet an older writer, Melissa (Jemima Kirke, Sex Education), who finds them fascinating. Frances and Bobbi begin to spend time with Melissa and her husband, handsome and reserved actor Nick (Joe Alwyn, The Favourite), and it doesn’t take long for a spark to develop between Frances and Nick. An intense affair is soon underway.
Fans of Normal People should be putting this one on their must-watch lists. A number of the Normal People creatives return for this Rooney adaptation, including director Lenny Abrahamson (Room, Frank) and writer-producer Alice Birch. Episodes are also directed by Leanne Welham (His Dark Materials), with author Rooney again on board as executive producer.
Conversations with Friends will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on May 16th in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. In the U.S. and U.K. the series will be hitting Hulu and BBC Three, respectively, on May 15th.
