New ‘Drop’ Trailer: A First Date Turns Deadly in Blumhouse Thriller

Dating can be terrifying. In Drop, it’s literal. A new trailer has arrived for the upcoming thriller from director Christopher Landon, returning to his Happy Death Day roots with a tense, high-concept mystery-thriller where dinner and drinks quickly turn to panic and paranoia.

Drop stars Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) as Violet, a widowed mother nervously stepping into the dating pool after years away. Her first date with the disarmingly charming Henry (Brandon Sklenar, It Ends with Us) begins with promise—but things spiral when Violet starts receiving anonymous messages on her phone. The drops begin as cryptic memes but rapidly grow sinister, revealing personal details and escalating to violent threats.

The unseen tormentor demands complete obedience. If Violet tells anyone, including Henry, the hooded figure lurking on her home security cameras will kill her son and sister. The final message is clear: kill your date, or your family dies.

The trailer teases a single-location pressure cooker thriller, with Landon blending horror and dark humour in a setting where every character—staff, diners, even Henry—could be a suspect or a victim. Violett Beane, Reed Diamond, Gabrielle Ryan, and Travis Nelson round out the ensemble, along with newcomer Jacob Robinson as Violet’s son.

Drop is produced by genre heavyweights Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, with Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Cameron Fuller behind the scenes. The script comes from Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, who previously penned Truth or Dare and Fantasy Island for Blumhouse.

Drop will… drop (sorry) into U.S. cinemas on April 11th and Australian cinemas on April 17th.
