Take a look at the trailer that’s arrived for Dumb Money, an upcoming film depicting the insane true story of how everyday people rose the stock of videogame store chain GameStop to unfathomable levels in 2021.

The business suddenly became the world’s hottest company, making those behind the push rich, and costing Wall Street-riding billionaires more than they could imagine. If you’re keen to know more about the craziness that went down, the Wiki summary on the GameStop Short Squeeze is an easy enough read.

The film follows “regular guy” Keith Gill (played by Paul Dano), who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it. When his social posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich – until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.

A big cast here, including Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, Shailene Woodley and Seth Rogen, a number of whom play real-life figures.

This one is directed by Aussie filmmaker Craig Gillespie, whose credits include I, Tonya, Cruella, The Finest Hours and Lars and the Real Girl. The screenplay, based on the book “The Antisocial Network” by Ben Mezrich, was penned by Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo, both of whom worked as staff writers on Netflix series Orange is the New Black.

Looking forward to this one. Dumb Money will be opening in U.S. cinemas on September 22nd and Australian cinemas on October 19th.
