Liam Neeson’s Mike McCann is back—and once again, he just can’t catch a break. The trailer for Ice Road: Vengeance, the sequel to 2021’s The Ice Road, has arrived, and things are looking predictably grim for the gravel-voiced trucker.

This time, McCann finds himself in Nepal, travelling to scatter his brother’s ashes near Mt. Everest. But what starts as a quiet moment of closure quickly descends into chaos when the tour bus he’s on is hijacked by armed mercenaries with a kidnapping plan. Among the passengers: the son of a local governor—an unfortunate detail that turns the bus into a rolling target.

Again written and directed by Jonathan Hensleigh (also: director of 2004’s The Punisher, writer of Die Hard: With a Vengeance, co-writer of Armageddon), the sequel trades icy Canadian terrain for dizzying cliffside roads. McCann teams up with his mountain guide Dhani (Fan Bingbing) to take on a crew of heavily armed goons. Save for a new setting, it’s a pretty familiar-looking Neeson actioner: vehicle chases, gritted teeth, a few one-liners, a lot of bullets, some questionable visual effects.

Ice Road: Vengeance, also starring Marcus Thomas, Grace O’Sullivan, Saksham Sharma, Bernard Curry, Geoff Morrell, Mahesh Jadu, Amelia Bishop, Shapoor Batliwalla, Monish Anand, Shivantha Wijesinha, and CJ Bloomfield, opens in select U.S. cinemas on June 27 and hits digital platforms on July 1.
