Here’s the trailer – and my trailer reaction – for Infinity Pool, the third feature film from writer-director Brandon Cronenberg, who previously delivered Possessor (2020) and Antiviral (2012).

Infinity Pool has Alexander Skarsgård and Cleopatra Coleman playing James and Em, who are are about to experience quite the dark turn on their seemingly perfect vacation. Guided by the seductive and mysterious Gabi (Mia Goth), they venture outside the resort grounds and find themselves in a culture filled with violence, hedonism, and untold horror. A tragic accident leaves them facing a zero tolerance policy for crime: either you’ll be executed, or, if you’re rich enough to afford it, you can watch yourself die instead.

As expected, it’s another macabre, ultra-violent and pitch-dark picture from Brandon Cronenberg, the son of renowned filmmaker David Cronenberg (The Fly, Scanners, Eastern Promises). The film was hit with an NC-17 rating in the U.S., pushing the team to edit the film and appeal the classification. They were successful. The rating now: Rated R for graphic violence, disturbing material, strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use, and some language. Yeah, it goes without saying: this won’t be for all tastes.

Infinity Pool will open in U.S. cinemas on January 27th.
