Take a look above at the trailer for Love Me, starring Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun as a curious ocean buoy and a resourceful satellite that fall in love. The film is a blend of live-action, animatronics, and classic animation.
Set in a desolate post-human world, Love Me introduces Stewart as a buoy and Yeun as a satellite, who connect through remnants of the internet and old YouTube videos. These unlikely AI protagonists embark on a journey of self-discovery and love long after humanity has vanished, with profound questions about identity, connection, and what it means to truly be alive. Stewart’s character poignantly states, “I’m not even a buoy anymore,” and Yeun’s satellite counters, “We’re becoming who we are.”
Stewart described the project, the feature debut for directors Sam and Andy Zuchero, as a universal exploration of human projection and connection. “The movie’s about everyone, all of our projections, fears and insecurities,” she said at Sundance. “The way we interact with ourselves and each other, the way we present. The negotiation between lies and manipulation and also disparity in wanting to be seen. I just looked at it [the script] and was like, ‘Oh so I could play everyone in the whole world in this movie, and then really I could only play myself.’… When I watched the movie it’s like everyone I’ve ever met is in it.”
Love Me will open in US cinemas on 31 January.
