‘M3GAN 2.0’ Teaser Trailer: The Killer Doll Returns to Dance—And Slay

The first teaser has arrived for M3GAN 2.0, the follow-up to 2023’s surprise sci-fi horror hit that introduced audiences to the world’s deadliest dancing android. Take a look above.

The teaser, which made its debut during the Grammys, has a slightly older-looking version of the sinister AI doll showing off a new set of moves to Chappell Roan’s “Femininomenon.” The timing of the trailer drop was fitting, as Roan had just taken the stage at the Grammys to perform “Pink Pony Club.”

A New Threat—and a Familiar Face

Picking up two years after the events of the first film, M3GAN 2.0 finds Gemma (Allison Williams, reprising the role) navigating her newfound job as an advocate for AI oversight, while her niece Cady (Violet McGraw) struggles with adolescence under her watchful eye. However, unbeknownst to them, the remnants of M3GAN’s groundbreaking technology have fallen into the wrong hands.

Enter Amelia (played by Ahsoka’s Ivanna Sakhno), a next-generation military-grade infiltration android created by a powerful defence contractor. Designed to be the ultimate weapon, Amelia soon develops self-awareness and—predictably—loses interest in obeying human commands. With catastrophe looming, Gemma realises that the only way to stop this new threat is to bring M3GAN back—this time, with a few deadly upgrades.

The first film’s director Gerard Johnstone returns at the helm, with horror powerhouses James Wan and Jason Blum producing alongside star Allison Williams. The film also sees the return of Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps, while newcomers Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, and Jemaine Clement join the cast.

From Viral Hit to Expanding Universe

M3GAN was an unexpected box office smash, opening to $30.4 million in the U.S. before going on to top $US180 million worldwide. A very strong result made even more impressive when considering the film’s modest budget: $US12 million. Of course, it didn’t take long for a sequel to get the green light. But why stop there?

The franchise also has a spin-off on the way titled Soulm8te, scheduled for a 2026 release. Billed as an erotic thriller with an AI twist, the film will follow a man (David Rysdahl, Nine Days) who acquires an artificially intelligent android (to be played by Aussie star Lily Sullivan, Evil Dead Rise) to cope with the loss of his wife. Yeah, bad idea. The android is soon wreaking havoc as a dangerously obsessive companion. The cast also includes Claudia Doumit, another Aussie who you may know as Victoria Neuman in The Boys. Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother) is directing the film, spawned as a story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Rafael Jordan.

M3GAN 2.0 Release Date
