Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi to Lead ‘Wuthering Heights’ Adaptation from ‘Saltburn’ Director Emerald Fennell

Director Emerald Fennell (Saltburn, Promising Young Woman) is set to adapt Emily BrontĂ«’s classic novel Wuthering Heights into a feature film, with Aussie stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi cast in the leading roles. Robbie will portray Catherine Earnshaw and Elordi will take on the role of Heathcliff.

This project marks the third collaboration between Fennell and LuckyChap Entertainment, Robbie’s production company, following their work on Promising Young Woman—for which Fennell won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay—and the recent film Saltburn. MRC will produce and finance the film, which Fennell will write, direct, and produce.

As first reported by Deadline, the project is currently in pre-production and is expected to begin filming in the UK sometime in 2025.

Emily BrontĂ«’s Wuthering Heights, first published in 1847, is a significant work of English literature that delves into themes of love, revenge, and social class. The novel centers on the complex relationships between the Earnshaw and Linton families and their interactions with Heathcliff, the Earnshaws’ foster son. Specific plot details of Fennell’s adaptation have not been disclosed.

Margot Robbie recently starred in and produced Barbie, which grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide and received eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. She is also set to appear in Kogonada’s (Pachinko, After Yang) upcoming film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, slated for release in May.

Jacob Elordi reunites with Fennell after starring in her film Saltburn, opposite Barry Keoghan. Known for his role in HBO’s Euphoria, Elordi has several upcoming projects, including The Narrow Road to the Deep North, directed by Justin Kurzel, and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which will see him playing The Monster. He portrayed Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s film Priscilla.
