Fans of Netflix docos, take a look at what may be another surprisingly binge-worthy docuseries – one that happens to be focused on the Mermaid industry.

The trailer has arrived for 4-part docuseries MerPeople, taking a deep dive into the fascinating world of underwater performers who have turned their love for the mystical sea creatures into real-world careers. From putting on dazzling small-town shows in Florida to the crowning of the King and Queen of the Seas in the Bahamas, this series will take you on a journey of passion and perseverance. As the official synopsis reads, “get ready to set sail on an unforgettable voyage and immerse yourself in a world where fantasy becomes reality.”

MerPeople is directed by Cynthia Wade, who won an Oscar for 2007 short documentary Freeheld and who came to this project with commercial experience directing underwater, having helmed an aquatic spot with American Olympic swimmer Simone Manuel for Skinceuticals. Wade also executive produced the docuseries with Scout Productions, the Emmy-winning creators of Queer Eye.

The four-part series premieres on Netflix on May 23rd.
