With Moana 2 hitting the big screen – U.S. cinemas from November 27th and Australian cinemas from November 28th – we sat down with three of the film’s talented voice cast members: David Fane (voice of Kele), Awhimai Fraser (voice of Matangi), and Temuera Morrison (returning as Chief Tui)! In the video you can watch above, we discuss their characters, their favourite moments from the sequel, and more.
The highly anticipated Disney sequel picks up three years after the original film. Moana, once again voiced by Auli‘i Cravalho, sets out on a daring new mission with Maui (Dwayne Johnson, reprising the voice role) and a band of unlikely seafarers. When an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors arrives, Moana embarks on a journey to faraway waters, uncovering long-lost secrets and facing challenges unlike anything she’s encountered before. The film is directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, and has a voice cast that includes Rachel House, Nicole Scherzinger, Hualālai Chung, Rose Matafeo, and more.
During the interview, Temuera Morrison reflected on stepping back into the role of Chief Tui, exploring how the character has grown since we last saw him. Awhimai Fraser gave us a glimpse into Matangi, an antagonist with layers and a mysterious past, sharing the excitement of voicing such a compelling character. David Fane, meanwhile, delved into the grumpy charm of Kele, a farmer reluctantly drawn into Moana’s mission, offering his thoughts on his character’s surly nature.
