Netflix has dropped the official trailer for Night Always Comes, a gritty one-night thriller that finds Vanessa Kirby (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) pushed to the brink in a desperate bid to reclaim control of her life and fight for her family. A city, a night, a chance to take it all back
Unfolding over the course of a single, pressure-cooked evening, the film follows Lynette (Kirby), a woman teetering on the edge as she navigates a city that feels as fractured and unforgiving as her own circumstances. With time running out and her family’s future on the line, Lynette takes matters into her own hands — recklessly at times — in a fight to secure a home that symbolises the security she’s long been denied.

“Lynette is driven by a desperate need for security, for the idea of home as much as, I guess, the reality of it,” director Benjamin Caron tells Netflix site Tudum. “Yet she is haunted by the fear that she doesn’t deserve it. Her journey is a study in propulsion. Each decision, no matter how reckless, is an attempt to outrun her past and carve out a future.”
Based on Willy Vlautin’s novel The Night Always Comes and adapted by Sarah Conradt (Mother’s Instinct), the film thrusts viewers into a psychological and emotional chase across the nightscape of Portland, Oregon. “The contrast between the city’s foreclosed buildings and the gentrified neighbourhoods reflects Lynette’s personal crisis,” Caron explains.
Kirby at the centre of it all
Kirby, who also serves as a producer, reunites with Caron following their earlier collaboration on The Crown (he directed 11 episodes of the Netflix series). According to Caron, Kirby’s creative involvement helped shape Lynette into something volatile and electric.
“Vanessa brings a beautifully wild energy to Lynette, making the character unpredictable and deeply, deeply human,” he says. “Together, we worked on creating a character who is simply not just reacting to the world, but desperately trying to wrest control of her future, even as she teeters on the edge of self-destruction.”
Joining Kirby are Jennifer Jason Leigh, Zack Gottsagen, Stephan James, Julia Fox, Eli Roth, Randall Park, and Michael Kelly.
