The teaser trailer has arrived for Pinocchio, the latest live-action reimagining from Disney.
Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis reunites with his Forrest Gump, Cast Away, and Polar Express star Tom Hanks in this retelling of the beloved tale (originally an 1883 Italian children’s novel by Carlo Collodi), with Hanks playing the woodcarver Geppetto.
The cast includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (who played creepy kid Miles Wingrave in The Haunting of Bly Manor) as Pinocchio; Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio’s guide and “conscience”; Cynthia Erivo as Blue Fairy; Keegan-Michael Key as “Honest” John; Luke Evans as The Coachman; Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull, a new character; Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana (and her marionette Sabina); Giuseppe Battiston as Señor Stromboli; and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick,
The teaser does a good job at just that, introducing Hanks’ Geppetto and providing quick looks at various other characters, including Jiminy Cricket and the Blue Fairy. Pinocchio himself isn’t showcased just yet, although the first official still above shows that they’re going for a look firmly akin to the character design in Disney’s 1940 classic.
Pinocchio will premiere on Disney+ on September 8th, which has been dubbed Disney+ Day by the studio as that’s the day the D23 Expo: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event kicks off in Anaheim, CA.
